The Geosynthetics market segment promotes the use of
geosynthetics to geotechnical, civil and geoengineering
communities through education, marketing, networking
and advocacy. GMA offers members a wealth of valuable
connections, education and insight helping members
navigate and prosper in one of the fastest-growing markets.

* FY22 brought a reopening from the pandemic
and an opportunity for GMA to host the first
in-person meeting post COVID. GeoNashville
attracted over 250 attendees to an all-PLENARY
conference. Presentations included updates and
conversations with various agencies (FHWA,
USACE), the first live 2021 Koerner Lecture
(Dr. Jie Han) and a panel discussion with the
Platinum Sponsors highlighting the future of
geosynthetics. A unique aspect of GeoNashville
was a 'single room' layout allowing the exhibitors
to enjoy the presentations while continuing their
promotional and networking activities. GMA
has built a strong track record and added new
initiatives to further extend our influence. Our
government relations efforts at both the federal
and state levels are known and respected by
both executive and legislative branches and
agencies, and we have used that strong position
to forcefully advocate for the recognition of the
benefits we provide in the transportation sector,
the environmental sector, and beyond. With
the passage of the IIJA (Infrastructure), GMA
is actively seeking funding opportunities to
expand geosynthetic usage and acceptance.
* Our Focus Groups and Task Forces continued
to push on with opportunities to effect
changes beneficial to the expanded use of
geosynthetics. The Geotextile and Geogrid
Focus Groups worked in conjunction with
the NTPEP Geosynthetics Committee and
AASHTO's COMP new Technical Section
TS-4g Geosynthetics & Erosion Control.
The new TS-4g is a confirmation that state
DOTs have accepted the regular use of
geosynthetics and provides an opportunity
for the industry cooperation with the agencies
to increase the awareness of geosynthetics.
* The GMA Interlayer Task Force is a great
example of the cooperation between industry
and agencies. The Task Force brought
the critical industry players together to
develop a generic specification which then
was presented to several state DOTs which
adopted all or portions of the specification
for their standards. TS-4g has now created
a subcommittee to evaluate adoption of the
interlayer generic specification into M288
(AASHTO's Geosynthetic Specification).
